A Swiss Airlines Airbus A340-300, registration HB-JMM performing flight LX-18 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Newark,NJ (USA), was accelerating for takeoff from Zurich's runway 34 when the #2 engine (CFM56, inboard left hand) stalled prompting the crew to reject takeoff at high speed (above 104 knots ground speed). The aircraft slowed safely and came to a stop at the intersection of runways 34 and 28 prompting ATC to instruct two aircraft on approach to runway 28 to go around. No injuries occurred.

 

Emergency services responded to check the hot brakes, the aircraft subsequently taxied off the runway about 10 minutes later and stopped on an adjacent taxiway, from where it was towed to the apron.
