ZRH photography

Hello all

 

I'll be visiting Zürich on 26-29th(fri-mon) of August to do some aviation photography and thought it best to seek some advice from you. :)

 

I've been to ZRH back in 2007, but obviously things change in 4 years...

 

Firstly, are the car parks P3 and P6 accesible? Last time I shot mainly from those locations and found them to be rather good.

 

Secondly, I've understood that the observation deck is currently closed. Are there any good spots at or near the terminals other than the car parks?

 

Thirdly, last time I didn't get the chance to visit the heligrill spot. This time I also don't have a car and have to rely completely on public transport, so, are there easy ways getting there using public transport? Either from terminals or from Kloten trainstation(I'll be staying at Fly Away near the train station)?

 

Also, if you have any good guides, hints & tips or anything relevant that comes to mind, please do tell me. :)

Hi Olli,

 

Yes P3 and P6 are still available for photography... You can try the visitor platform on the dock E (Midfield).

 

When the weather is good, I'll be at the airport myself, so I could show you around a bit...

It also includes information about the bus from the airport to the heligrill spot (bus 510, twice per hour, plus 20mins of walking). The same bus (only once per hour though) also takes you to the approach and line-up spots in the north.

 

If I'm around I can happily come to the airport to meet you; however, since I don't drive myself, I won't be able to take you around the airport unfortunately. Except if you'd like to rent a bicycle (which is my standard means of transportation around ZRH :-))

And of course it would be nice to meet you locals. :)

 

Bicycle would be good option if I wouldn't have to worry breaking my knee again. So public transport and manageable walking distances for me...which means sticking to P3, P6 and midfield most likely, but that's fine. :)

I just hope you guys know just how properly excellent airport you have for aviation photographers. :008:

 

Still two days to go and maybe few hundred photos to shoot...

 

ps. If you happen to be at the airport and notice couple shooting of guys shooting with Canon gear and speaking Finnish, come and say hi.. :)
