Jan 23/08.Raw video from inside one of the planes.RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (AP) - Two United Airlines flights bound for the United States -- including one headed to Chicago -- were forced to return to Sao Paulo, Brazil today because of mechanical problems.

 

United Flight 842 was headed for Chicago with 142 passengers and 12 crew members aboard when it turned back just after midnight.

 

About 2.5 hours later, Washington, D.C.-bound Flight 860 turned back.

 

United did not describe the nature of the mechanical problems.

 

Some passengers were transferred to other airlines, but most spent the night in Sao Paulo and flew out on special flights later.
