The Dutch Hawker Hunter Foundation has announced it was terminating operations, and as a result, would be disposing of Hawker Hunter Mk68 G-EHLW, still located with Horizon Aircraft Services Ltd. (HAS) at St Athan, Wales.

The aircraft had been ferried from Altenrhein, Switzerland to St Athan on a CAA Permit to Test & Ferry in July 2022 - after undergoing very thorough maintenance and CAA-inspections on site, on the understanding that it would only require minor adaptations and modifications for the CAA to grant a Full Permit to Fly, allowing the Hunter to return to its home at Leeuwarden Air Base at the end of summer.

The DHHF has lamented that the UK CAA's handling of the application 'has taken endless time and effort without any commitment to a timetable or outcome'. As a result, two years on, with the aircraft still stranded in the UK without a Permit to Fly with no end to the saga in sight, this has led to further issues, such as availability and currency of qualified aircrew and groundcrew.

Thus, the Board was no longer confident it would be in a position to operate a Hawker Hunter to its professional standards, despite N-322 being in excellent condition, and thus the last airworthy civilian-operated Hawker Hunter will never take to the sky in Dutch airspace.
